NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY

We hope the first month of school has gone smoothly for your students. As is typical for this time of year, your college-bound students might have questions about applying to NAU, how to start their scholarship search, and what steps to take once they have been admitted. We also recognize that the 2020-21 academic year is presenting some atypical situations. We’ve outlined some helpful information for both below:

  • If they have not already done so, students can apply to NAU. We ask students to self-report their grades in the application. We are looking at the unweighted GPA in the 16 core classes for admissions. You can find the detailed admissions requirements here.

  • Students are automatically considered for one of our First-Year Merit-Based Scholarships when they apply. Awarding typically occurs 3-4 weeks after an offer of admission.

  • Once a student is admitted and ready to accept their offer, they can see their Next Steps to Enrollment. Some of those steps include applying for housing (optional), Priority Enrollment and signing up for Orientation.

  • To keep our Lumberjack community as well your students safe and healthy, our Daily Campus Presentations, Special Events, and Information Sessions are virtual this semester. We hope that your students consider one of these options to learn more about what NAU has to offer.

  • Our Virtual NAU website offers a number of additional resources (virtual campus tours, college videos, and information as to how NAU has responded to COVID-19) that your students might find helpful in their college search.

Our Admissions Officers are here to help answer students’ questions about the application process, scholarships and financial aid, and the next steps to enrollment. We want to be sure to connect students with campus resources as they are navigating the college search process.

We greatly appreciate all that you do for your students to help them find the college that is right for them.

If you have any questions, contact us at admissions@nau.edu or (928) 523-5511.

Go Lumberjacks!

Sincerely,

Lauren Rosales

LEHIGH UNIVERSITY

Lehigh is excited to announce that we are now accepting the Coalition Application in addition to the Common Application—an expansion of our on-going efforts to support students.

As you likely know, the Coalition is a group of institutions dedicated to assisting first generation and low-income college-bound students through the admissions and financial aid processes (although any student can utilize the support and tools). This includes the application and MyCoalition, a free, online college-planning tool that helps students learn about, prepare for, and apply to college.

We realize that there is a great deal happening in the world, and the high school experience and college search process for your students is looking differently than envisioned. We’ll continue to provide opportunities to experience Lehigh virtually, and continue to use policies that are flexible with this ever-changing world (including honoring schools’ alternative grading).

Our admissions team is here to help if you have questions - just reach out to your regional admissions counselor, and follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Please contact our office at 610-758-3100 or admissions@lehigh.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

WILLIAMS COLLEGE

Williams is Test-Optional for 2020-2021

Students applying during the 2020-2021 admission cycle can do so under a test-optional policy. No student should put themselves at risk to pursue testing this fall. Those who’ve already taken the SAT or ACT can choose to submit their scores if they would like. Regardless, all students will be evaluated through a student-centered, holistic evaluation process.

Connecting with Williams viaSlate.org

Slate.org is a free, secure platform that allows admission and counseling colleagues to share information about and in support of students’ journeys to college. It can be used to check the status of your students’ applications to Williams, review admission decisions after they’ve been released, upload letters of recommendation and transcripts, and more. If Slate.org might be helpful to you, pleasecreate an account.

Financial Aid that Helps Students Thrive, Not Just Get By

Williams is fortunate to have entered the pandemic in a strong financial situation, and we’ll continue to meet100% of every family’s financial need. Additionally, we’re committed to making sure our aided students have what they need to really thrive: Free textbooks, free health insurance, free summer storage, funding for career internships and fellowships, the chance to waive up to two summer earnings contributions so they can explore whatever fields they choose, and emergency funding for when things don’t go as planned. IONA COLLEGE

Iona is thrilled to report that new student enrollment has increased 15% in the past year. In our incoming freshmen class, both the number of students and academic profile increased—the average GPA rose to 3.4, up from 3.2 last year, and we saw significant growth in our Honors Program.

New Academic Programs

Aside from growing the size of our community, we’re also growing on the academic front. This past summer we launched a new Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, offering both a direct-entry traditional four-year program and an accelerated second-degree program. To house our program, Iona constructed a 7,500 square foot nursing facility that will provide our students with the latest instructional technology available. The nursing program complements Iona’s already vibrant health sciences offerings, including Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology (direct entry BA/MA), and Marriage & Family Therapy.

This summer, The Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation expanded to launch its first dynamic majors—a BA in Entrepreneurial Leadership and a BBA in Entrepreneurship. Both are designed to inspire students to be innovative leaders and problem-solvers, empowering them to be agents of change in the world, regardless of what profession they choose.

Campus Improvements

Over the past year the campus has also made significant improvements to community facilities, including: classroom and lab renovations, fitness/recreation facilities enhancements, and technology and equipment upgrades. We also completed a $37 million renovation of the renowned LaPenta School of Business, unveiled the new Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, and upgraded the Hynes Athletics Center where our NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Program, led by Coach Rick Pitino, will play this season.

Below are a few more important points to help guide the conversations with your students as you advise them on admission to Iona:

  • Iona is Test-Optional: Iona College became a test-optional institution more than a year ago. Our students are so much more than numbers, which is why we don’t require standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) for admission or for merit-based scholarships. The test-optional policy is applicable to all our undergraduate programs at the college.

  • Iona is Common Application Exclusive: Starting this year, the Common Application is the only way to apply for a first-year seat in the class.

  • Iona has Three Application Deadlines: Early Decision (binding) 12/1/20, Early Action 12/15/20, and Regular Decision 2/15/21.

  • Iona Interviews: Furthering our commitment to holistic review, we encourage students to interview with their admissions counselor this year. Interviews will be conducted either in-person, or virtually, based on student preference and are available on weekdays until 6 p.m. Students considering Early Decision are required to interview with their counselor, students considering Early Action or Regular Decision are strongly encouraged.

  • Iona Visit Opportunities: Prospective students and their families can choose to visit in-person or virtually. We are currently offering in-person tours seven days a week, and all in-person tours are executed on a 1:1 family to tour guide ratio. Virtual information sessions are offered 4 days a week.

    • Weekdays & Holidays
      1. Individual Private On-Campus Tours: Mon-Fri 10:00 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.
      2. Virtual Information Sessions: Mon & Wed at 6:00 p.m. Tues & Thurs at 12:00 p.m.

    • Weekends
      1. Individual Private On-Campus Tours: Saturday & Sunday, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

  • Redesigned and Updated Website: If you navigate to Iona.edu you'll find a completely new experience and modern design. We understand the website is a critical tool in working with students through the college process. Our website pages are now offering more robust and compelling academic pages, simplified Admissions and Financial Aid information, and interactive search functions that make our programs more discoverable.

EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE

  • Campus Visit Days: Schedule a personalized campus visit during the week by appointment. Schedule today.

  • NEW School of Business: Emory & Henry College hired Dr. Emmett Tracy as the new Dean of the School of Business. Read more.

  • Streamlined Admission Processes: We recognize that COVID-19 has presented many obstacles for families and schools. We now have some changes in our admissions processes to ease the transition into college. Admission has never been easier!

    • Test Score Optional: We have waived the application requirement for test scores (SAT or ACT).

    • Essay Requirement Waived: We are no longer requiring an essay as part of the application process.

    • NEW Merit Scholarships: $23,000 in scholarships are available for those with a 3.5 GPA and above—one of the highest in the ODAC and the largest academic merit scholarship to be offered in E&H History!

    • No Application Fee: The free application is open now for spring and fall enrollment. The earlier students apply, the better their benefits for preferred scholarships, class selection, housing and more.

    • Spring 2021 Enrollment: COVID-19 may have altered some students’ plans to enter college in the fall semester. We encourage Spring term enrollment and students can still enter this academic year. If you know students who would benefit from Spring term enrollment, please encourage them to apply to Emory & Henry College. We are ready to help students begin their academic and professional careers and to offer generous scholarships. There is no need to delay the start of their brighter future.

  • The van Vlissingen Center for Career and Professional Development: We offer tools and trainings for students to help them explore what they want to study in college including Focus 2, a program designed to help navigate academic and career interests. Meet the director, Lee Svete, and upcoming programs.

  • E&H Theatre Department Virtual Productions: The E&H Theatre Department is using digital media to do a series of 10-minute productions. Each short play is by a different playwright, including one by alumna Pearl Moore (E&H Class of 2019). Some of the productions will be directed by members of the Barter Theatre staff. E&H Theatre YouTube to see more premieres.

  • Fall 2020 Admissions Open Houses: We recently hosted virtual open house and academic info sessions. If you missed any of those, feel free to view them on demand on our Youtube Channel Inside E&H Sessions playlist or Fall 2020 Open House playlist.

IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY

Fall is finally here and school is in full swing! There are always a lot of things happening at Iowa State and we’d love to share a few of them with you.

Iowa State University Is Officially Test-Optional For Fall 2021 Freshman Applicants!

Because the pandemic continues to greatly limit ACT and SAT testing opportunities for freshman applicants, the Board of Regents recently approved a recommendation for Iowa’s three Regent universities to be officially test-optional for fall 2021 admission cycle. This policy, which is specific to US freshman applicants entering next fall, allows students to choose whether they wish to submit ACT or SAT scores to Iowa State.

Applicants Who Choose To Provide Test Scores

These applicants will be admitted as they always have, based upon their Regent Admission Index (RAI) score. Below is the mathematical formula for calculating your students’ RAI scores:

RAI Formula

ACT composite score (or converted SAT score) x 3

+ Cumulative GPA x 30

+ Number of years of high school core courses x 5

RAI score

Students who meet Iowa State’s minimum high school course requirements and whose RAI score is at least 245 will automatically be approved for admission. Students whose RAI score falls below 245 will be considered on an individual basis.

Applicants Who Do Not Provide Test Scores

These applicants will be admitted based upon an individual review of their academic records with special emphasis given to the student’s high school cumulative GPA and core courses. These applicants will not be required to submit their test scores before they enroll.

Fall 2021 Automatic Freshman Merit Awards

We are finalizing our automatic freshman merit award program for Fall 2021 applicants. We expect to update our program, including awards and criteria, by early November 2020. As Iowa State is test-optional for the Fall 2021 term, students will not be penalized due to lack of an ACT or SAT score, but will undergo an individual review for automatic freshman merit awards offered through the Office of Admissions.

Daily On-Campus Visits

Our on campus visit options are very limited this fall. These programs include a brief enrollment presentation followed by an outdoor campus walking tour led by a current student tour guide. Due to the continuous spread of COVID-19 and to prioritize the health and safety of our guests and campus, we have made some changes to our on-campus experiences. Guests will be required to wear a face covering while on campus and maintain physical distance from others.

Virtual Visits

Students can experience Iowa State University from the comfort of their home or school through one of our virtual visits. We have options for everyone including virtual student visits and transfer virtual visits. These programs will feature an admissions information session and a live student panel, academic information sessions and various campus resource sessions. You can choose to attend the sessions that work for you. Virtual Visits are offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 12:00 p.m. Check out our website for specific information on dates and options.

Tour Guide Live

Join our current students as they show you around campus using our YouVisit virtual campus tour. They will share information on academics, traditions, housing, and their own student experiences at ISU. Tour Guide Live is offered most Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Bringing Iowa State to You

Check out our series of Bringing Iowa State to You sessions! These engaging sessions will focus on specific topics each week and give you a special inside look at resources, academics, and student life at ISU.

Virtual High School Visits For Fall 2020—Coming Soon To A Screen Near You!

Like most things this fall, high school visits from the Iowa State Admissions staff will look a little different. We are still looking forward to the opportunity to interact with students, share information about Iowa State, and answer questions. Rather than meeting physically with students in their schools, we will be scheduling virtual visits.

Admissions staff are working together to create an interactive virtual presentation that allows students to closely participate whether they are learning from school or home. Virtual high school visits are planned to begin soon. Although a little later than normal, this will provide additional time for schools to adjust to all the other changes they have been navigating this fall.

Our staff will be in contact with you soon. If you have questions now, but are not sure who to talk to, please check out our Connect With Us page, or contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@iastate.edu or 515-294-5836.

Impact Of COVID On Iowa State’s 2020-2021 Academic Calendar

Fall classes began Monday, August 17, a week earlier than planned, and the semester ends Wednesday, November 25 (the day before Thanksgiving).

The revised academic calendar includes:

  • Final exams from Saturday, November 21, through Wednesday, November 25 (excluding Sunday, November 22)

  • Fall 2020 undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies and college convocations held virtually with prerecorded ceremonies available for viewing at 10 a.m. CST on Saturday, November 28.

  • Spring semester starts Monday, January 25, two weeks later than planned. There will be no spring break; classes will be held the week of March 15-19.

  • Spring semester ends Thursday, May 6. The spring semester, including final exams, will end as originally scheduled on May 6.

This schedule provides the university with the best opportunity to complete the fall semester safely and successfully on campus, while maximizing face-to-face instruction, maintaining experiential learning goals, and completing final exams onsite.
